They finished last year 4-12-0, 4th in the AFC West after starting out 2-2.

Key Trade

The much-anticipated Falcons-Raiders trade for cornerback DeAngelo Hall is done.

The teams had already agreed that Atlanta would receive Oakland’s second- and sixth-round picks in the NFL draft, but the holdup had been whether the Raiders and Hall could reach an agreement on a long-term contract extension. Hall tells Wyche that the deal will get done.

Key Departures:

Porter Leaves Oakland

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed free-agent WR Jerry Porter (Raiders) to a six-year, $30 million contract, with $10 million in guaranteed money.

Thank god this clown is off the Raiders. He will prolly have a beastly season next year, if he ever decides to run at full speed.

Miami Signs McCown

John Clayton, of ESPN, reports the Miami Dolphins signed unrestricted free-agent QB Josh McCown (Raiders) Friday, Feb. 29. Adam Schefter, of NFL.com, reports it is a two-year deal worth $6.25 million.

Bills Add TE Anderson

Anderson was used a lot in the red zone as the Raiders made an effort to take advantage of his size.

Key Signings:

Gabril Wilson

Wilson left the Super Bowl champions for a $39 million contract with the Oakland Raiders. Financial terms were not immediately available, but it was believed that the Knight will get a three-year deal worth between $5-million to $6 million. A 13-year veteran who will turn 33 in September, Knight led the Jacksonville Jaguars with 93 tackles last season. He also had four interceptions and a forced fumble. Knight added 20 tackles in the postseason, including 13 in the wild-card victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Javon Walker

According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Walker has agreed to terms on a six-year, $55 million deal that includes $16 million in guaranteed money.
Javon Walker will earn $27 million over the first three years of the contract.
Wow.

The former first-round pick of the Packers tore an ACL in 2005, and was traded in April 2006 to Denver. He signed a long-term deal including significant option/roster bonuses in years two and three. The Broncos kept him after a strong 2006, but dumped him following a subpar 2007 that was plagued by problems with the same knee that he injured more than two years ago.

Obviously this is the replacement for Jerry Porter. I don't like the move due to the cost but I definitely like Walker more than Porter.

Drew Carter

The Oakland Raiders' offseason assault on the free-agent market continues.
According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, the Raiders have agreed to terms with receiver Drew Carter, formerly of the Carolina Panthers. Terms are not yet known.
Carter was a fifth-round draft pick of the Panthers in 2004. He started seven games in 2007, catching 38 passes for 517 yards and four touchdowns -- all career highs.

Resignings:

Dominic Rhodes

Running back Dominic Rhodes agreed to a restructured contract which dropped his salary from $3 million to $1.75 million.

Rhodes was also scheduled to receive a $2 million roster bonus Friday, and it is a safe bet that he agreed to take much less. The Raiders reduced the salary of LaMont Jordan in a similar fashion last season.

In his final two games in relief of an injured Justin Fargas, Rhodes ran for 337 yards on 56 carries against Jacksonville and San Diego, a pair of playoff caliber defenses.

Cornell Green

Word is the Raiders have also agreed to terms with offensive tackle Cornell Green on a two-year contract. Green had a career-high 10 starts last season before sustaining a knee injury and surrendering the right tackle spot to Paul McQuistan.

Asomugha

A report on espn says that the Raiders have signed Nnamdi Asomugha for an 8 year deal that will pay in the neighborhood of $108 million. This is Al Davis locking up his best young player for the duration of his career. I have not seen the breakdown yet, but it is very likely that even with the mammoth overall size of the deal that this move will save money on this year’s salary cap. I would expect that there is a large chunk of it that is a guaranteed signing bonus that will pro rate over eight year life of the deal.

Raiders Defense:

MLB: Morrison
ROLB: Howard
LOLB: Thomas/Williams
RCB: Asomugha, Routt (Nickel corner)
LCB: Hall, C.Carr (Must be resigned, Routt has had problems in the slot and he brings versatility to other key areas on spteams)
FS: Huff (Interchangeable)
SS: Wilson (Interchangeable)
RDE: Gholston
LDE: Burgess
RDT: Kelly
LDT: Sands

Thats a pretty solid looking group imho.

I cant wait to see J-Roc next year... and if we get McFadden and beef up the Oline (That already looked good last year ) we might have a real shot @ winning the division.

Turner left SD; he was a bigger piece of that team that most appreciate. Walker is out of Denver and Marshall fucked up his arm. KC... well they are still Kansas City!!!

Virginia defensive end Chris Long is the latest potential draft pick to visit the Raiders, attending the San Diego Padres-San Francisco Giants game Wednesday night along with linebacker Kirk Morrison and defensive line coach Keith Millard.

Morrison and Long were both brief interview subjects on the Comcast SportsNet telecast. Long is the son of Howie Long, the former Raiders defensive end and a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Will Long be around at No. 4?

Harris is easily cut after one year if he fails to develop.

Wilson’s $16 million guaranteed is excessive, but he is only 27 years old and a solid run defender, one of the few on the roster. Kelly is also only 27, and he can play either defensive end or defensive tackle.

Walker is perhaps the most questionable acquisition because of repeated injury issues, advanced age for a receiver, and an excessive contract.

The salaries might be acceptable because the Raiders still have cap room even with star cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha franchised as an exclusive rights free agent. The simple truth is that the salary cap has increased faster than salaries have escalated.

The Raiders do not exactly have a assload of talented people playing at undervalued rookie contracts. Two bargains they had were Asomugha and Justin Fargas, who also just signed a big contract. In the next several years, they need only re-sign Thomas Howard and Kirk Morrison to expensive raises.

The Hall acquisition shows the lack of faith the Raiders have in Fabian Washington, but even if they are giving up on him early, Hall could help create a dominant defense.

Draft Needs

The Raiders have the draft’s fourth overall selection, and it is a make-or-break pick for this draft. The Raiders do not pick again until the fourth round.

The Raiders defense was gashed in the middle last season and never solved its run defense problems. If they acquired either Dorsey or Ellis, they could return to their 2006 form as a dominant defense.

The Raiders probably cannot afford to ignore the offensive side of the ball. The decision to try and build excellence on one side rather than mediocrity has led to two rather forgettable seasons.

The Oakland Raiders released running back Dominic Rhodes on Monday, two days after using their top draft pick to take big-play back Darren McFadden.

Good Riddance, The guy sucked before he came. Now Fargas, Bush and McFadden make up the best 1,2,3 combo in the NFL quiet possibly

The Raiders are holding onto RB LaMont Jordan because some in the organization believe they can still get trade value for the man who ran for 1,025 yards in 2005.

At this point, teams are more likely to wait for Jordan's release so they can sign him to a cheaper deal than the $4.7 million he is owed this season.

Jordan is likely fourth on the depth chart behind McFadden, Justin Fargas and Michael Bush.

Stu is gone!!! FUCK YES

Quote:
Stuart Schweigert, a four-year veteran who served as the poster boy for the Raiders’ tackling woes, is looking for a new employer.

Schweigert was informed of his release Thursday, the San Francisco Chronicle reported two sources confirmed.

The Raiders didn't announce the deal's terms, but scheduled a news conference for Friday with McFadden, the Arkansas tailback who finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting in each of the last two seasons.

Several media outlets reported on their websites McFadden agreed to a six-year deal worth up to $60 million, with $26 million guaranteed.

The Raiders hope McFadden can be an immediate contributor after the club dumped veteran running back Dominic Rhodes and entertained trade offers for fellow veteran LaMont Jordan, who probably will be released later. Starter Justin Fargas and promising youngster Michael Bush also will be in Oakland's backfield.

Notes from last day of minicamp:
June 4th- JaMarcus Russell made jaw-dropping throw on a broken play, rolling to his right and flicking a pass that traveled 60 yards in the air to Drew Carter, who got behind Michael Huff for a big gain.

However he also got picked off by Hall.

Darren McFadden was one of several players working at fielding balls from a JUGS machine to simulate kickoffs.

June 5
Illustrating how important the Raiders think it is for Russell to avoid errors, the most vocal praise came when he threw a ball away out of the back of the end zone, with offensive coordiantor Greg Knapp shouting “smart,” holding his hands aloft and then gesturing toward Russell.

Side note:

The guaranteed money paid to Russell, McFadden, DeAngelo Hall, Tommy Kelly, Gibril Wilson, Javon Walker, Justin Fargas and Nnamdi Asomugha (when he signs his one-year tender) falls just short of $146 million. For that, you can at least in part thank in part the cash infusion from silent business partners Paul Leff, David Abrams and Dan Goldring, who purchased 20 percent of the franchise this year.

and it looks like, 3 years too late, lamont jordan is on his way out the door. He did have a stellar first half of the season last year, but credit much of that to a much improved offensive scheme under kiffin and an improved OL.

Oh and apparently Mike Vick is McFaddens Financial guy.... (not the ex-falcon)

I think the raiders could have a top 3 rushing tandem in McFadden and Bush this year. But then again, we havent even played a snap in the preseason.

LAS VEGAS -- Oakland Raiders wide receiver Javon Walker was found unconscious on a Las Vegas street Monday after apparently being the victim of a robbery.

Police spokesman Bill Cassell said in a statement that Walker was taken to a hospital with "significant injuries" after being found early Monday on a street off the Las Vegas Strip.

Cassell said Walker remained in fair condition at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. A Raiders spokesman said the team was "in the process of gathering information" and had no further comment.

A large amount of cash and some jewelry were taken from Walker, who suffered "significant injuries," police said.

Police Lt. Clinton Nichols said detectives are retracing Walker's activities in the hours before he was found injured Monday morning on a street off the Las Vegas Strip.

"That's one of the first things we do, backtrack what he did and where he stayed," Nichols said, adding that the investigation was still in the early stages. "We knew there was a large amount of cash taken, and some jewelry."

Nichols said he believed Walker would be released after a 24-hour stay at the hospital. A hospital spokesman said he had no immediate information about Walker's condition.

The Raiders’ confirmed they had parted ways with running back LaMont Jordan, confirming his release on the transactions section of their Web site.

Coach Lane Kiffin said following the morning practice he expected something to happen soon with regard to Jordan. The Raiders have only three quarterbacks and could look to bring in another quarterback as a camp arm behind JaMarcus Russell, Andrew Walter and Marques Tuiasosopo.

With a $6.4 million salary cap number, the Raiders save $3.3 million against the cap by releasing Jordan. He was scheduled to make $4.7 million this season and $5 million next season. The Raiders will be charged $1.4 million in pro-rated bonus money in each of the next two years.

The Raiders wanted to trade Jordan, locking him out of offseason workouts and training camp, but apparently found no takers.
