Yay or nay?

I went to a couple erm.. I guess you could call them PT sessions. Got my ass handed to me multiple times.

I've always been against any form of service, but my ex has been talking to me about it a bit, and after going there it might not be THAT bad of an idea. I know it would make my dumb ass a little less dumb.

It's the 4 years away from the few people I actually like that's making or breaking the decision. I get leave and all that crap, but still.

It's damn near my only option at the moment.. no school as of january 21st, I'm 18 and off the health/dental etc. plan january 11th. It's gonna be damn near impossible to make any sort of a living without working like 13 jobs at once.

Honestly, you would die in the marines. The armed forces talk a good game, (and I have nothing but respect for them) but they like to leave out the other stuff. With your personality, they would break you. My cousin's husband was very similar to you and when he came back.... he is not the same person anymore.

Granted, the forces are supposed to change you and that's to be expected, but most of the changes i've seen from people are not good changes. A lot of marines especially have this mentality of "I'm a marine, I serve my country, I am better than you" and they think that they are entitled to eveything because of a life choice.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't do it, but I don't think that it'd be the best idea for you at the moment. Think about it A LOT before you make up your mind. And if you end up deciding that you really want to get into it, let me know. I'll get you in touch with my old supervisor who's a captain in the marines. He'll hook you up. Actually, hell, even if you just wanna talk to a decent guy who wont feed you too much bull shit, let me know.

That would be nice, because I researched before I talked to my ex's recruiter, and he fed me like 60% bullshit, it was mildly annoying. They're not to bad at the center, but this one prick, omg I was ready to knock him the fuck out. I hated how he talked at me, how he treated me, and the mentality he had.

I really honestly think that I would have a lot of problems complying to what they need me to be, like you said.

A close-ish friend of mine went into the marines and he came back... different, like you said, it's like he was perma brain washed into some.. thing that wasn't human anymore. It almost scared me.

And that's a lot of them. I'll get ahold of Nick and when you get your phone back on I'll have him get in touch with you. He's a good man and doesn't dish out much bull shit.(Augh.... I am all sorts of gonna get shit for this. I'm not supposed to know he's in the marines let alone as high up as he is.)

He didn't want anyone knowing his business really. Which is cool, but I wish I'd known earlier. It woulda made for much less anger towards him.

The marines are a god awful choice when it comes to services, absolutely god awful. Go air force or coast guard.

You have problems with authority.

You want to join the marines?

This is setting yourself up for failure.

Go wait tables.

wordup. + the marines are meant to be the ELITE of the elite aren't they? no offense en but would you be up to that any ways???

you're all "think for myself; question authority..." you'd hate being told what to do, when to do it, what to wear whilst doing it, how to do it, who to do it with, how to think, when to react etc etc etc

Joining the marines isn't something you ponder. If you're going to make it as a marine you have to have lived with the mentality that you're going to be a marine. I know at least half a dozen people who ended up becoming cooks because they didn't have it, it takes a year or so of training to be anywhere near close to being prepared.

Well, the elite of the American armed forces anyway.
My armed forces could beat up your armed forces.

Imagine a girl's period blues...when a sub's thousands of feet under water! Possibly fatal.

If you have the will and the mental strength to do it, you will. If joining the marines is just "a thing you wanna do" because you have nothing else to do, you'll get raped.

You might be happier ni the Air force or the Navy. . . The marines is tough as shit.

I think both of those give you more options after the military as well
