I screwed in my video card and I kept having the problems again.

I think jukie may have been right after all.

Anyway, new harddrive is now in.

Which also sucks because my e-mails only go back to October.

My life is average?

ya know, they make these things called "cds" and "jumpdrives" and its really nifty because you can put info on them. like backups and stuff.
but then that might be complicated. :(

I backed up on my external but I was not sure how to back up email contacts and the like. I am sure I could have figured it out but blowing up heads in L4D2 takes precedence.

Backing shit up on an external is the dumbest thing a human can do...

90% of external drives are Flash...meaning if your main drive fails because of something and by some chance, your home-made back up fails too then your fucked cause you cant recover flash drives...

Use DvD's or if your really that way out use magnetic tape, or you could use your head like me and ghost your drives.

Looks like everything is working.

Except vent. Refuses to start. Something about DEP suggested one article but I'm not about to go fucking with all that.

Dude....flash drives are flash drives. I think the max storage that they've hit right now for flash drives is 256GB, right? And that too I'm pretty sure if fucking expensive. Flash drive by definition works on flash storage, which is totally different from how hard drives work. And most of the external hard drives out there are hard disk based, not flash based. Obviously you'd be stupid to back up your files on a flash drive...but I've never seen people calling flash drives as external hard drives.

DVD's are more prone to physical damage than hard drives and magnetic tape? Dude...that's like War Games in the Matrix era.

Best way to backup in a few years will be the cloud. I'm already using it...right now I have about 200 GB worth of data backed up in different places on the web.

Most externals are Flash now, they can get 1TB now worst way to back stuff up ever... and no a 500gb external will set you back £50 which is roughly $30

DvD are prone to physical damage when used every day, back ups aint used every day (this is probably the best form of backup for penny pincher's) you can back up all important documents and settings and photos and some movies easily on a few DvD's

Magnetic tape was a slight joke, this is how schools and offices back up their data, they normally do it every night and store the tape in a fire proof safe so if the school burns down the kids don't lose their work.

Cloud is online is it not? i wouldn't trust it tbh just another way for people to snoop around in my shit, if its online it can be exploited

Seriously the best way to back shit up is ghosting your drives, it works the same as these online mass data back up except its local, only problem is if you get a virus or summit it normally copies onto both drives making it a fucker to remove

however in the unlikely event of a drive fail that results in a format hey presto you still have all your shit, there is probably a way to do it across partitions too tbh but no idea how effective that would be

Why are you saying most externals are flash? every seagate, western digital and maxtor are hdds in an enclosure. not even close to flash. and really any media youre saving your data to is prone to failure. thats why you save it in multiple locations for redundancy. replace failed drive and transfer it over.

and mzz i told you months ago what it was. should just hire me and were good to go. :)

But dude the ones which are mentioned external hard disks, they are not flash. Maybe flash drives are being made more nowadays because of the portability, but if you start considering higher storage amount, the cost to manufacture flash is more than magnetic disks.

when i say flash you need to stop thinking of a little pen drive, they are the same size as an ext HDD have their own power source and connect through a usb lead, they for all intents and purposes look identical they just store data in a different way, they even use NTFS, but rather than writing to a disk it writes to a chip

Dude I GET YOUR POINT! I know flash drives have gotten much bigger, both in size and capacity. But they still are marketed as FLASH drives. Anyone who markets them as Hard Disks is a complete buffoon or just trying to fool people into paying much more. Because flash storage is expensive to make.

Well mine was £50 that i got for my laptop and its 500GB so they cant be that expensive

especially compared to a normal External HDD that would have been £100+

Here. Lowest I can see is $63 for a new one, which would be something like £40. And actually I've found that HDD prices in India are cheaper than the US. I got my Seagate FreeAgent Go 500GB USB powered for about $38.
