What are your thoughts on getting married?

Personally, i think that if you love someone that much, you don't need to spend 50,000 dollars to show it. Nor do you need to have a paper saying so, or have it be recognized my your country. I think that it's like, owning that other person in a way. It's just... ew.

(I'm sorry if this is a repeat, I skimmed, but didn't see anything. Got the idea from the eloping question)

It's all about insurance. No other good reason to get married. Unless, of course, you're ultra-religious (in which case you should be shot anyway) and are looking to have "legitimate" children.

Yeah weddings are ridiculously expensive, so if I ever do it I'm just gonna get married by a Justice of the peace or in Vegas

You do realize that I can just go to a random chapel anywhere on the strip and get married for under $100 right?
I almost did it with my roommate last time I was in Vegas just for the hell of it. Thankfully we decided against it.

I'd have to get it anulled back here in Utah and I'm not sure how much that would cost.
Oh and in my defense, we were drunk when we almost did it.

Lmao, and people have honestly asked me why I never get drunk enough to forget things/not know what I'm doing.

Honestly, I like the idea of marriage, every aspect of it. The religious, the spiritual, the legal union- bring it. I feel like everything in modern society is very transient, and putting it on paper (and cementing it in your religious or spiritual beliefs) helps bond two people together. I was almost married myself, but I was waaaay too young (17, ick).

I think expensive marriages are ridiculous, though. People have such a fucking inflated and romanticized image of weddings being these elaborate and royal affairs, and it's utter bullshit. My dream wedding is more a Napoleon Dynamite wed. then an expensive, highly planned out piece of crap.

Sorry if this comes out a little harsh....but if you do stupid shit and use the "oh i was so piss drunk i don't remember anything",its total BS!.You can stay stupid shit when you're drunk, but getting married,is a different thing.Or having sex for that matter. You KNOW what you are doing, and if you're doing it when you're drunk chances are that you wanted to do it when you were not drunk too and just didn't have enough balls to do it.

I second the not having the balls part. I know I've put a few shots in me before some things. No one can lie to me and tell me it's not easier.

I really wasn't expecting my one post to completely bring this thread back to life, but oh well. As for my "Vegas being expensive" comment, it was aimed more towards the other things that will be done in Vegas - not the wedding itself.

As for the "I was drunk so that what I did shouldn't have any consequences" defense, it's BS. If being under the influence holds no water in a the defense of murder or assault, it shouldn't hold any water in an annulment. If one were dumb enough to get married while under the influence, it sucks for them! Guess you'll just have to work it out, then.

*Oh, and I bet you forgot to sign a pre-nup, didn't you?

Oh I never use being drunk as an excuse. I accept responsibility for my actions while impaired.
You are right about the balls thing though, I always drink before doing something that I usually wouldn't do.

Oh, and I'm not legal. You tell me how many drunk guys that matters to though.

Fair.

Thus me not getting that drunk, and not sleeping around. Problem solved!
