like in the bedroom or as a kitchen table.... i was shopping for furniture today and there were some awfully tacky pieces that were like bedroom sets that had marble tops and there were kitchen tables that had it too.

Sometimes it can be overdone. But sometimes it can look nice.

My fireplace has a lot of marble though. I like it because it is cool to the touch. And if I put on a fire, the marble stays warm the next day.

This is my fireplace in the background. Its old (like the house) so I didn't put it in or choose it. But its to each person's personal taste as to when it looks nice.

I have a marble top table that I usually put in the kitchen (3 houses have seen this addition) and I tell you now it is the most AMAZING piece of furniture I have. Nothing sticks to it, nothing damages it, and it is sooo easy to keep clean. I have used it to make bread and you hardly need to use any flour on the table (for those of you who don't cook, you spread flour on the table before rolling out the dough to keep the dough from sticking to the table) this table a light dusting of flour will due because marble just doesn't stick. We bought it from a praline (that is a sugar candy) factory when they were closing and they made candy directly on the table, once again nothing sticks to it. I have cut vegetables directly on the marble and have no scratches, a wooden table would be scarred all the hell and back. Also, you can leave a beverage on the table without worrying that it will leave a ring because marble is not permeable enough to get a ring, so no need for coasters. The few times I have seen it damaged in any way (I left a cut lemon on it face-down overnight once and the citric acid scarred the marble) you can have it re-buffed and damage goes bye-bye. My kids have put markers fingernail polish and paint on this thing and all of it just comes right off.

The only problem I have with it is that it is HEAVY, and it is cold when you lean on it.
