OK, so I went to the gym for the first time in a very long time today and stepped on the scale and just about cried. I know the basics for getting back in shape, but does any one have some good suggestions on how to keep myself from getting bored because seriously, that is my biggest issue. I get bored and then i quit going. I would really like to be back down to the weight I was 5 years ago by the time my birthday rolls around in May and I'd like to loose at least 10 lbs by the time I go to Louisiana in November.

Pilates=Ferox is bored as hell. I go to a few classes when I catch them at the gym, but seriously. They bore me.

Find a place that does those stripper workouts?
Seriously though just find something alternative like that. It would probably be far less boring than your traditional workouts.

just change up your routine as you go. if you don't your body starts to adjust to it and you don't get the results anyway. go into the gym with an open mind as to what you wanna achieve for the day... push yourself, make yourself hurt, then change up your exercises.

Routine is boring and working out is routine (yes, that's why they call it that); if it's a fun routine, it won't be for long.

I keep myself interested by timing my routines and challenging my workout partners or myself to beat it. But you'd need to want to win and be better than everyone else for this to work for you.

Get a pole, that shit would have you fit as fuck... and (not saying you have a bad diet) change your diet, look it up. It's a huge, HUGE part of toning/dieting.
How to build a Stripper Pole!
Do it!!

EDIT: Or you could try this

Vigorous sex? It's fun (usually) and burns calories like a full workout.

As a reply to the above or to the original post - you decide.
Gives you an excuse to look for a workout partner.

I found that taking different classes (step, kickboxing, body pump) that is what kept me in the gym and actually kept me wanting to be there 6 days a week. Just change it up, thats the most important thing.

Congrats on going back though! Just keep pushing yourself for the next two weeks, after that, your body will want to go all the time

Dont get to down on yourself, i dont do it anymore :(

Me and my friend used to go every morning before work and on Saturday mornings. Then fucking Katrina came, fucked up my gym habit and took my workout partner to Atlanta :(

Ive tried going back since but its just not the same. I dont have the motivation anymore to get up in the mornings. Its just to easy to keep sleeping!

Therin lies the paradox.
No working out=No "workout partners"
No "workout partners"= No working out.

Haha Dark. But I wont be getting regular sex until I move. However, the in home stripper pole intrigues the hell out of me. When I finally get into a semi permanent place of residence I think I might actually have to think about building one of those. And I don't care what anyone says, part of it will be for work outs.

6days a week over summer is doable. over winter i have rugby as well so it makes it pretty impossible... if i'm lucky i'd be going two, but this winter i haven't really gone at all

maybe for you it is, there is no fucking way I could go to the gym 6 days a week and be happy

I'm going to try for 5 days a week, but realistically, I think 4 will be fine and is the most any one can expect to go and be happy.I'm just happy that I like snowboarding or I would have no outdoor activity in the winter.

Ferox,

as someone who practicly lives in gyms, the one advice I can give you is to eat good. Most people make the mistake of starving themselves while trying to lose weight, which is counter productive in every shape, way, and form.

Being a female you should eat 5 to 6 small meals a day, each meal just enough to satisfy your hunger. Rule of thumb is to keep each meal about the size of your fist. (cereal, soup, sandwitch, banana and a bottle of water water, tuna salad, etc...)

What that will do is keep your metabolism active and keep your energy and morale way up during your workouts. Small meals along with a good cardio routine at least 3 days a week, your body will start burning fat around the clock. Even when you're sleeping.

hmm i do live a literal 4minute jog away from my gym though... makes it easier to get there... and counts as a warm up almost... but do you not enjoy going to the gym? see that's the thing, if i didn't enjoy it i wouldn't go, i'd stay and do stuff at home. surround yourself with people there that you like to talk to. it all helps
