My mom and stepdad have just decided that im not over my grief so they are thinking of getting me counselling. I don know if it will be worth it, If youve had it, does it do the job.

It is a safe environment to vent. Worse case scenario it is a waste of time, best case scenario you begin to resolve your issues.

Not much to loose and so much to gain. Worth the investment.

It's been a bit hit and miss for me, but my problems are 14 years of mess. For something more subjective like grief, I don't see why a counsellor can't have you feeling better within a few months. There's no harm in trying it.

Just make sure that you make the counsellor know what works for you and what doesn't. They'll probably tell you that themselves, but there's no point in them suggesting you try things that you know won't help. Try to be as honest as possible too. The more frank you are with them, the better they'll be able to understand your situation -no matter how embarrassing it may feel.

Most counsellors have dealt with subjects like rape, domestic abuse and what-not, so they're not going to judge you.

Good luck with it, anyway.

How'd it go Robo?

I would have jumped in here but you seemed pretty on board with what Dag said (and I whole heartedly agreed with) so I didn't wanna cloud the field.

As a little reference point, I've seen 3 shrinks and 2 "licensed counselors" ie fake shrinks. It helped me a lot. Not the people, just the time I was forced to spend on thinking about myself and how my life had gone up to that point (also I did it at 22 so you WAY ahead of me) but I would recommend anyone with issues of any kind see someone, if only to give yourself a 60 minute window to look at yourself.

Well it seems that my mom just said it to make her feel better after I drunkndly told some friends and broke down. she then realised that I had no one when my dad died and she showed no support so i suppose to make her feel better she said she would help me. Just signed a education grant so I get £100 quid a month becuase my dad was a head teacher. Mom or stepdad dosnt know as I suspect they would royally fuck out at my grandparents becuase neither of them cba to tell them there course details. Broke down crying the other day after watching a film me and my dad used to watch a lot. Still miss him everyday and it seems like no one gives a shit. :/

Crying is not a bad thing. Let it out, it will allow the pressure to blow off. Don't be ashamed of it. It just means you care.

You can still shout and scream and beat your chest once in a while. Women do date men after all - unless they are lesbians or swing both ways.
